Ramadan is a month of reflection, striving to be the best version of ourselves, and focusing more on our acts of worship. At Al-Huda School, students live the spirit of Ramadan everyday through engaging activities and reminders that instill the importance and love of this blessed month in their hearts. One of the activities in Ramadan was a special trip to an assisted living facility, where our 4th grade boys and girls got the chance to meet the local elderly community to spend some time with them as an act of kindness towards others.
“We got to play lots of games with the elderly, talk to them, and they even gave us goody bags at the end! We were told to be kind to them by speaking to them nicely, being patient with them, and letting them win the game if they lost,” said Mariam Hijazi, 4th Grade Girls.
The students took turns playing various games with the elderly, like bean bag toss and board games, as well as interviewing the elderly by asking them questions about their lives.
“As a parent, I love that this activity and act of kindness towards the elderly was encouraged, especially during Ramadan where there is so much more focus, attention, and emphasis on acts of good deeds,” said a 4th Grade parent.
“It’s a great opportunity for the kids to bridge that generation gap between theirs and the older one, and to realize that there is a point of connection between all humans, Muslim and non-Muslim alike. It shows just how far kindness can reach others, and I felt like my daughter and her peers really got to witness that in action on this trip, Alhamdulillah.”
