Al-Huda School Staff & Students Collect 1.5 Tons of Supplies for Good Neighbor Day

Throughout the month of October 2025, our Al-Huda School staff, parents, and students came together to donate pantry staples, baby food and formula, and toiletries in order to help local families in need as part of the Good Neighbor Day initiative led by multiple local organizations. Our Dar-us-Salaam social services arm, Ansaar-ul-Birr, took care of running this project at the school.

“Good Neighbor Day is a collaboration between the University of Maryland, the City of College Park, and the MNCPC (Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission) of Prince George’s County. This is our 14th year doing this project, and we reached out to Al-Huda School based on the recommendation of [the City of College Park] Council Member Maria Mackie,” explained Amy Caballero, the Community Partnership Coordinator for the Center for Community Engagement at the University of Maryland.

On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Amy Caballero came to Al-Huda School to oversee and pick up all the 1.5 TONS of donated items for the Good Neighbor Day project!

“Al-Huda School, along with other locations, was asked to help out with the food drive, and we will be donating the items to the College Park Food Bank, the University of Maryland Campus Pantry, and the Pregnancy Aid Center,” said Amy Caballero. “Working in collaboration with schools and other organizations is really important because at the end of the day, we all need community in order to help each other out. It always brings me so much joy to see what we can accomplish when we work together with community partners on meaningful projects.”

“Alhamdulillah, it was a successful drive,” said Bibi Mohamed, Director of Ansaar-ul-Birr. “We incorporated Good Neighbor Day as a school-wide Islamic Studies project, and each classroom donated at least one large box of supplies—some classrooms donated even more.”

“Seeing our students involved in community service gives me hope for the future of our Ummah.”

Thank you to everyone who helped us out with our Good Neighbor Day drive! May Allah allow it to weigh heavily on your scale of good deeds, Ameen.
